“
Slow Fish” is organised by Slow Food and the Region of Liguria and will take place in Genoa from May 4th to 7th for the third time. The biennial international event is dedicated to the world of fishing and its problems and analyses the concept of sustainable fishing production from different points of view through conferences, meetings, workshops and tasting. A market with the best fish products on sale will also be available. Fishing communities from many countries around the world will take part in “Slow Fish” as well as the fishing associations Lega Pesca and Agci Pesca, academics, researchers, public bodies, enthusiasts and experts of the sector. “Slow Fish” not only consider itself a trade fair; it also deals with subjects linked to environmental sustainability and social fairness.
Information about the serious conditions of water ecosystems is alarming - depletion of North Sea fish stocks and suffering of various species of fish in the Mediterranean; industrial over-fishing, extended distribution areas and pollution have impoverished the sea. According to Fao, half the world’s fish resources have been fully exploited. Consumers at large have to make choices for the preservation of the environment and of food resources; therefore Slow Food Italia launches an awareness-raising campaign to protect fish biodiversity through responsible consumer behaviour and to improve knowledge and enjoyment of food.
