We’ve lived in Umbria for 14 years, and there are many beguiling places to see here, but our secret spot is Panicale, a tiny hill town near Perugia. I’ve written about the medieval period a lot, but going to Panicale feels like cheating. Its original defensive walls have fortified the town against modern life — you might as well be stepping back into 1500.
