The way healthcare in the Algarve is perceived has secured a radical change with the opening of a hospital in Faro which is more a synthesis of a luxury hotel and unrivalled technology than just a mere medical facility.
A maternity section with suites that even five-star hotels will find hard to compete with, an eight-bed intensive care unit and an operating block with nine surgery halls and the most up to date technology are but some of the features ‘visitors’ will find at the new private hospital.
In line with its policy of luxury medical care, the hospital has employed a chef whose previous employers were the Sheraton hotel in Albufeira, whose task it will now be to prepare patients’ meals.
Coming at a cost of 35 million euros, the flagship Hospital Particular do Algarve in Faro has undoubtedly served to lift the standard of healthcare in southern Portugal.
A total of 125 doctors will be on call at the hospital, located only a couple of kilometres from Faro International Airport, with medical staff from the Algarve, Lisbon, Britain, Germany and Holland, the president of the hospital administration, Dr. João Bacalhau, told a press conference on Wednesday.
