Albufeira's most impressive feature is its spectacular sandy beaches, about two dozen of them. Dramatic colorful rock formations, typical for the beaches of Albufeira, provide shelter even in the colder months. Albufeira has beaches to suit all tastes; some of the finest beaches on the Algarve are here. In summer, the major beaches have lifeguards and offer a variety of water sport facilities, restaurants, snack bars and bars. |

Spring is an ideal season to explore Portugal. The days are warm and sunny but there are far less tourists around than in the peak of summer. The landscape comes alive with ......
When to book your Summer Holidays!
If you have children then holidays must be taken during the school holidays.
This creates a great demand for all the popular family holiday resorts.
So great can be the demand that the availability of holiday villas and apartments becomes less and less as the Summer Holidays approach.
Although this all must seem common sense, it is surprising just how many people leave the booking of their Summer Holidays for whatever reason, to the last minute.
Perhaps among these reasons is the popularity of last minute deals and indecision of where to go.
Although it is possible to get some last minute holiday deals, airlines generally offer lower prices for advance bookings and higher prices for last minute bookings and so the gain is offset.
Another possible reason for delaying booking is the fear that illness or other unpredictable events may cause cancellation and loss of money.
Of course it is possible to take out insurance against such events happening, but this can be both expensive and unnecessary.
Most owners of holiday villas and apartments require a small deposit to secure the holiday booking. This deposit is fully refundable in the event of cancellation provided that enough notice is given to enable the booking dates to be offered to others enquiring, This notice period of cancellation is usually around 6-8 weeks.
If you are new to the concept of booking your own holiday on- line, the procedure is usually quite simple.Simply search for the holiday country on one or more of the many holiday sites. Then make your enquiry to the owner or agent via their Booking Form or in some cases their Email address. You will then be sent a booking form for you to complete and return with your booking deposit. Hey Presto you have booked your holiday!
So what is the best time to book your summer holiday? Why not as early as now to ensure that you have the best choice , beating the rush ,avoiding frustration and disappointment?
GuimarĂ£es a European City of Culture in 2012
The ancient medieval city of Guimarães, which will be one of two European Capitals of Culture in 2012, is to benefit from sponsorship for events from Portugal’s tourist board, Turismo de Portugal.
Although the investment has yet to be specified, the year-long event is expected to cost around 111 million euros, 70 million of which will be provided by the municipal authority for infrastructure and 41 million from the Guimarães City Foundation for cultural events.
The city, known as the cradle of the Portuguese nation, was selected by Brussels in May to be one of two European Capitals of Culture.
Algarve tourism expected recovery
The Algarve Tourism Barometer is a document produced by the ERTA every year after collecting responses from a panel of local politicians, businesspeople and other dignitaries in the region.
Around 32.2 per cent of those questioned believe 2010 will be a better year for tourism in the Algarve, 40.7 per cent say the sector will remain the same as last year and 16.9 per cent say that the worst is still to come with 6.8 per cent saying the tourism industry will be severely affected.
Villa Feliz: A holiday for all seasons
The Algarve is much more than a summer resort, because it offers unique holiday qualities in the spring and autumn months. From Almond blossom time in January to the end of March, visitors will find the climate warmer than at home and ideal for many activities.
There is plenty of sunshine in these months, but without the intensity of midsummer, and the air temperatures are ideal for walking, touring etc.. Some rain can be expected, but the result is a greener terrain than in neighbouring Spain. It is also a time when many would say the countryside is at its best with wonderful displays of wild flowers in bloom.
An added bonus is that prices at off-peak times are appreciably lower than during the peak summer period.
For some, winter is also an appealing time to take a holiday for this is when it is truly quiet and relaxing, and when life reverts to a leisurely rural pace. Some rain can be expected in these months, but the result is a greener terrain than in neighbouring Spain.
The Algarve can be a very comfortable and enjoyable alternative to the prolonged and dreary UK winter and Villa Feliz is a good place for a holiday in all seasons.
Buying Property in the Algarve
The process of purchasing or selling any type of property or land is not as strictly regulated in Portugal as it is in Spain and France. However, the level of bureaucratic red tape and the Portuguese legal idiosyncrasies can make it a complex transaction. Therefore those with little knowledge of the country, language, legal and administrative system are recommended to hire a local lawyer to act as a broker in their interest. They will take care of the paperwork so that things can go more smoothly.

Large Ryanair investment in Faro Airport
The Algarve was given a massive boost this week with news that Irish low-cost giant Ryanair is to invest over 400 million U.S. dollars in Faro Airport. The announcement has been met with all-round approval, with the Government terming it as “the news of the year for the Algarve”. Charismatic Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary revealed details of the venture during a whistle-stop visit to the Algarve on Wednesday during which he announced Faro Airport as the airline’s second Portuguese base, reaffirmation, he said, of Ryanair’s belief in Portugal following the creation of its first national base in Oporto back in September.
Set to be in force next year, Ryanair’s Faro base will .....
