Burt Lake, Mullet Lake to be site of MWT state championship
TOPINABEE - Burt Lake and Mullet Lake will be the sites of choice for some of the top walleye anglers in the Michigan Walleye Tour as it will be conducting its 2007 state championship event on the lake and will be headquartered out of Topinabee starting today.
This will be the 12th year the Michigan Walleye Tour has put on such an event and the third time that it has visited the Inland Waterway.
The state championship will consist of 42 teams who earned enough points to qualify them for a chance to be crowned the best walleye angler in the state of Michigan. Both Burt and Mullet Lakes pose unique challenges for the fishermen and will challenge their skills and knowledge according to a press release from the Michigan Walleye Tour.
Techniques will range from live bait presentations with spinners, to open water trolling with crank baits, and jigging. The teams will depart daily at 7 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Weigh in ceremonies start daily at 3:00 p.m. at the Topinabee Township Park and the public is welcome to attend.
