Abandoned Nets Pulled From Lake Manitoba

Tuesday, 09. October 2007
Conservation officials will likely pay a little more attention after a man finally got some attention over his concern about abandoned fishing nets in Lake Manitoba. Rudy Kitsch had been complaining about the nets for months, talking about the danger they pose to recreational boaters.

The Assistant Deputy Minister of Conservation Bruce Bremner tells CJOB, natural resources officers finally pulled some out, but several remain. He says they won't be able to press charges, because they can't determine ownership:

Bremner was able to confirm they are large commercial fishing nets. Some were only 6 inches below the surface of the Lake.
