Winnipeg at Risk Youth
youth are reeling in a great recreational and educational opportunity, thanks to local fishing enthusiasts. Through the Fish Winnipeg Youth-At-Risk Angling Program local kids have access to a hands-on leisure activity that provides an alternative to street life.
Fish Winnipeg teaches young people about the basics of angling and conservation, through catch-and-release fishing on Winnipegs Red River. Each participant receives a rod and reel to keep; some also have the opportunity to enhance their fishing experience with a trip to the Whiteshell Provincial Park. The programming engages hundreds of young people.
Fish Winnipeg is a program of Fish Futures, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the conservation and enhancement of freshwater fisheries. The group sponsors research projects, habitat preservation and public education.
