Anglers need to know wintertime habits of particular species
With the official arrival of meteorological winter finally here, the weatherman is living up to his forecast. With very cold and possibly stormy days on tap, Mother Nature is letting us know just who is the boss as far as the weather goes. The onset of cold weather will be welcomed by the many folks in the Midwest who are fans of the popular sport of ice fishing. With skim ice starting to form around the shoreline areas already, it hopefully will not be to long before we have safe, fishable ice to walk on. With that thought in mind, let's talk early-season ice fishing. During my conversations with anglers throughout the Midwest and Canada at sport shows and seminars, it is really great to find that many are extending their fishing seasons by taking up ice fishing. With some proper planning and preparation, ice fishing is a very enjoyable wintertime activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family. One thing that I do want to mention is that early season ice can be very dangerous. Make a point to use extreme caution and be very sure that the ice you intend to fish is safe to walk on.
