On a more personal note Jeffrey tested and recieved his brownbelt in Uechi/Shohei-ryu karate tonight and he's elated to now be a senior student of his much admired sensei. To give you some background on this style very briefly it is a traditional Chinese/Okinawan art that was brought from Fukien Province in Southern China back to the homeland of Kanbun Uechi on Okinawa. Kanbun the founder developed the art even further on Okinawa with his son Kanei.
The art is known for it's pointed toe kicks and one knuckle punch that penetrate and do severe damage. The bodies natural weapons are hardened through iron body conditioning and closed fists are not used as much as open handed techniques.
This is a very brief description of a very deep and storied art that Jeffrey is proud to be a part of and that he loves very much. Other Okinawan styles to name a few are Goju-ryu and Shorin-ryu.
This was a very pleasant and memorable night for this martial artist and writer.
