Location:
Clay Lake (Lac Argile) is 45 minutes (82 km) east of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, north of Buckingham and just before Val-des-Bois, in the beautiful Gatineau Hills of western Quebec. The cottage is conveniently located within easy commuting distance to/from Ottawa, on an excellent direct highway.
Waterfront property:
"Private" shoreline bay with 220 feet of waterfront that is both shallow, but mainly deep. Water front is prestine with no weeds, offering excellent swimming conditions. Lac Argile is a quiet, large lake (5.3 km x 1.1 km), set in a picturesque mountain valley. Only 40% of the lake waterfront is cottage developed and the remaining crown land is closed to further development. The chalet is built on a large private lot with lots of trees. There is an entrance gate to the property, offering privacy and security. Parking for several cars.

Chalet facilities:
"Above and Beyond" is a spacious (1540 sq. feet) three bedroom, all-season residence in a very private, quiet, natural "lakeside" environment. The chalet is located 40 ft. above and 20 ft. back from the waterfront which provides breath taking panoramic views of the lake (VERY PRIVATE - no other cottages can be seen from the lakeside deck, no cottages are permitted on the opposite side of the lake). The far side of the lake is an expansive provincial park with 5.3 km of forest and mountains bordering the shoreline. The view from the lakefront deck is spectacular and you feel like you have just stepped into the Canadian wilderness. Have breakfast on the lakeside deck and watch the early morning sunrise over the Gatineau Hills directly across from our cottage. BBQ lunch on the side patio deck and then flop into one of our nearby hammocks. Why not plan a romantic evening, dining by candle light in the sunroom which faces the lake while listening to the loons calling across the water. Later, watch the moon rise over the mountains as it shimmers moon beams over the lake surface creating a very romantic mood. Star gazing is now at its best. You may even be lucky enough to witness the northern lights dancing across the sky. Many windows provide scenic views and cool air cross-ventilation. The nearby shade trees also provide relief from the hot summer sun. Natural fresh air breezes come off the lake during the evening and are cooled as they proceed over the nearby forest floor. The added gentle lapping of distant waves on the lake shoreline are very conducive to getting a restful nights sleep. Ceiling fans in all rooms but very rarely required. Our facilities are very clean, smoke-free, secure and comfortable. We go an extra mile to make your holiday as enjoyable and worry-free as possible.
Screen Room:
Lake water is our main source of hot and cold water. Although we normaly have on hand a standby five gallon jug of city water (with a dispenser), we ask that you bring your own drinking water. Bottled spring water may also be purchased in nearby Val des Bois.
Fishing:
Lake trout (stocked), bass, pike, white fish (Quebec fishing license available in nearby Val des Bois).

Buckingham Country Club (819) 986-8035, a picturesque 18-hole public golf course approximately twenty minutes away. Montebello Golf Course is an exciting and challenging professionally designed course layout and ranked as the second best public golf course in Quebec. Less than an hour drive. Heritage Golf Club is a couple of minutes further. Mont Tremblant is a world class golf and ski resort. It offers several championship golf courses (Le Diable, Le Gerant). The Mont Tremblant "Village" is architecturally quaint with many unique and interesting shopping boutiques. It has a variety of fine restaurants, bistros, including a large restaurant on top of the mountain. It is less than a two hour drive to this major resort in the Laurentians and worth a visit.Nature Park:
"Papineau-Labelle Provincial Park"- the chalet faces this wildlife reserve, offering a natural, beautiful, panoramic, forested mountain scenery. In the evening while sitting on the deck, you can watch the moon rise over the mountains and shimmer on the lake. One really feels like they are quite alone in the serenity of the wilderness. Small vacant sandy beaches and swim-off rocks dot the lakeside. Nature walks are at their best during the fall with a display of spectacular autumn colours and mountain top hiking views.
Val-des-Bois
Val-des-Bois (Valley of the Woods) is 3 km. from the chalet. This village features a French bakery (boulangerie), butcher shop, several restaurants, large grocery store, video rental, convenience, hardware stores, gas /propane service station, a bank (Interac /ATM service) and a post office.
Buckingham Hospital
Hospital is 37 km away with medical emergency facilities. Telephone number "911" for emergency services. Health clinic in Val des Bois. Medical first aid kit/book in the cottage.
"Above and Beyond", at Lac Argile is very easy to find on a recently paved highway - only 82 km from Ottawa. A map and detailed, written directions will be provided.

2009 RENTAL RATES
Adult Tenant Rate:
Weekly rental period is from Friday (5pm) to the following Friday (11am). On Friday afternoons between clients, we personally ensure that the cottage is spotless, the beds are made with fresh, clean bed linens, grass is cut, boats are clean etc. We enjoy welcoming our guests who arrive around Friday 5:00 pm.
High Season Weekly Rates:
Mid-June, July, August, to mid-September, $1275. per couple. Two couples $1900.
Low Season Weekly Rates:
May to Mid-June $975. or after Mid-September $975. per couple. Two couples $1500.
Guest Rates:
$70 per person per overnight. $100 per couple per overnight. Guest day rates are $30 per person. All guests must be registered with the owner prior to their occupancy of the cottage.
Spring and Fall Weekend Getaway Rates:
Spring and Fall (low season) weekend or mid-week getaways may be available.
May to Mid-June or after Mid-September weekends - $325 per weekend for one couple or $450 per weekend for two couples.
May to Mid-June or after Mid-September long weekends - $425 per long weekend for one couple or $550 per long weekend for two couples.
Weekday or mid-week getaways may also be a possibility.

We want our adult guests to enjoy their stay at our summer retreat so we try to provide most of the necessities and conveniences, minimizing what needs to be transported to and from "Above and Beyond". Our tenants only need to bring beach towels, clothing, toiletries, food, drinking water and a flashlight. You might also want to bring your favourite music tapes/CD's, a book or magazine, fishing gear, golf clubs, snorkling gear, a camera and perhaps shelled peanuts to hand feed the cute little chipmunks.
