el águila - eagle. Las águilas son aves rapaces.
Friday, 28. May 2010
Spanish word of the day: 'el águila' [AH-gee-lah]
English translation: eagle
Special note:
'Águila' is feminine just like 'agua' (water). However, you have to say 'el áugila' and 'el agua' to avoid a clash between the two a's in 'la águila'.
In the plural form, because of the 's' in 'las', we say 'las aguas' and 'las águilas' again. :-)
Phrase:
Las águilas son aves rapaces.
Eagles are raptors.
Yesterday's word:
'la razón' - reason [rah-THON]
Have a great weekend! Saludos, Chris
