Technical Note: Sequestration

Saturday, 07. May 2005
Sequestration is the capture and storage of gases, in particular CO2, to control the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere.  Storage of the gases in a geological formations, such as oil and gas resevoirs, unmineable coal  seams and deep saline resevoirs are relatively the easiest means of sequstration.  The use of smokestack gases pumped into oil fields to enhance the amount of oil that can be recovered is the first large scale application of this technology in the U.S.
