Chemicals made from biomass will replace petrochemicals as oil depletes and become more costly and scarce. One such chemical is polylactic acid made from corn NatureWorks LLC, located in Blair, Nebraska and owned by Cargill. Its petrochemical competitors are polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene.
