These include alternative energy, renewable energy, biochemicals, bioenergy, wind power, solar power, photovoltaics, ocean power, ethanol, biodiesel, clean coal power, all electric cars, batteries, hybrid cars, hydrogen, oil natural gas and fuel cells. Peak oil and environmental concerns will be discussed as they relate to these technologies.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are similar to regular hybrids (HEVs) except that they are able to run for significant distances in the all-electric mode, like a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Their fuel (gasoline or diesel) economy is in the range of 80-120 mpg.
